What is on it

Each barrel size has its own scale. There is also a units to mL table and space for your notes.

That matters because U-100 means 100 units in 1 mL, according to ADA: Overview of Insulin Concentration for School Nurses (opens in a new tab) and MedlinePlus: Giving an insulin injection (opens in a new tab). Check your label for which number is being used there: units, mL, or mg.

Example reading: 100 units equals 1 mL. Example reading: 1 unit equals 0.01 mL.

These are examples of reading the marks, not an amount to take.

How to print it right

Print settings matter here. A page that shrinks will change the scale.

  1. Open the PDF.
  2. Choose 100 percent scale.
  3. Turn off fit to page.
  4. Print one page.
  5. Check the ruler line.
  6. Compare it with your own syringe.

Now read your own barrel. Find two printed numbers, count the lines between them, and divide to see the step on your syringe. Don’t use one rule for every barrel.

For the reading itself, line up the tip of the plunger with the line and follow your own syringe's instructions. If you need help beyond the arithmetic or the printed marks, follow the label and ask your pharmacist or prescriber.

More printables

If you keep paper notes, the printable pack adds more space around the same kind of recordkeeping. It sits well beside a reconstitution chart and a CSV template if you also keep digital notes.

The pack includes Vial Ledger, Injection Site Log, and Syringe Scale Poster cards. It is paid, and the price is shown at checkout.

Read the scale online

If you want the same idea on your phone, you can read the scale online. The online guide walks through the printed numbers and the lines between them.

Watch the label wording. ADA: Overview of Insulin Concentration for School Nurses (opens in a new tab) says the syringe must match the vial's concentration for U-100, and FDA: instructions for use on a U-100 insulin vial label (opens in a new tab) uses units in the label instructions. Check that your plan, label, and syringe use the same unit before you write it down.
